Meet the Creator: Savannah Rae Demers

This entry was posted in News on .

Savannah Rae Demers was a dance major at Oklahoma City University with a specific dream: the Rockettes, Broadway, the whole thing. She was also, quietly, building something else — posting content as if the career had already started, not worrying about the numbers, trusting the process before the process had any evidence behind it.

Then TikTok found her dad jokes, and the rest moved fast. She made the call to leave school, move to Los Angeles, and go all in. That was a few years ago. These days she’s the kind of creator people stop in shopping malls because they recognize her, the kind who attends the Grammys and talks about burnout with the same honesty she brings to a pickup line.

Q&A

How did you get started in social media?

It kind of all started with dad jokes. I was actually a dance major at Oklahoma City University — had the dream of being a Rockette on Broadway. I loved my time there, but I always dreamed of being a content creator, so I took that pretty seriously. TikTok kind of blew up with the dad jokes and pickup lines, and I made the difficult decision to leave school, move to LA, and it has just been the biggest dream come true. I’m really grateful to be here.

What is one of those moments that really got to you?

Ooh, that’s a tough one. Got to go to the Grammys this year, which was pretty incredible. Got to see Taylor Swift, all the things.

Tell us about your creative process.

It looks a little bit like getting inspiration from creators around me, seeing what trends are going on, what’s new on social media — and then putting my own little spin on it. I really strive to be as genuine and authentic with my content as I can be, so that it stays true to who I am and is really integrated well within my content.

Do you ever get creative burnout?

Yes, all the time. It is so normal, and it is something that I’ve had to accept. Therapy has helped a lot — and journaling and all the things — because it can be a scary feeling at first when you’re like, wait, why am I feeling this? Am I not supposed to be doing this anymore? And that’s simply not the case. It’s normal. If you’re on a treadmill for three days, you’re gonna get tired, and you need to take a little bit of a break — and that’s totally okay, because it’ll still be there for you when you get back. It’s different for everyone, so finding what works best for you and being able to take your space, take your time — it’s perfectly normal.

Who is your favorite creator?

There are so many. Obviously Alix Earle — I think she is just a genius, and the girl works so hard. Stagecoach, Coachella, flies to Harvard the next day. Talk about a businesswoman. I definitely look up to her. I also love Emily Kaiser. Her content just makes you feel safe, makes you feel like you’re on FaceTime with her.

“I don’t think, I know that it is never too late to chase your dreams. You being you is enough, and there is a place for you — whether it’s on the internet or whatever dream you are chasing. So just don’t give up on that.”
