Aracelis Almodovar moved to LA to be an actress. COVID sent her back to Florida, back to her family, and accidentally into one of the most genuinely funny content formats on the internet. She was in her senior year of directing class when she looked at her parents and thought: they are my subjects.
The SWAGmodovars were born. Her mom, her dad, a camera — and a McDonald’s video that hit a million views in a day.
How did your creator journey begin?
I was here for acting. Got sent back to Florida during COVID. I was in my senior year of acting school, doing directing — and then I was like, wait. They are my subjects. TikTok was popping off. That’s when we started, and it’s been history ever since.
What was your first viral moment?
A McDonald’s video. I had my parents do it — asking my mom if she wanted anything, and she said no. Then my dad comes in with the food. My mom started eating all the McDonald’s and was like, “Why didn’t you get me this?” And he was like, “‘Cause you didn’t ask for anything!” That hit over a million within the first day.
What advice would you give yourself when you were just getting started?
Take that leap of faith. Take the risks. It’s your life. Own it. Be authentically you in everything that you do, and always remain humble.
