The 2026 TikTok Trend Report

Trend Report · 2026

The creator formats, spend shifts, and engagement signals reshaping brand campaigns this year.

Open Influence Research · Aug 21, 2026 · 9 min read

Short-form video did not just win attention in 2025 — it rewired how brands plan, brief, and measure creator work. Heading into 2026, the platforms that reward native, fast-iterating content are pulling budget away from polished one-off productions and toward always-on creator programs.

This report distills what Open Influence saw across 400+ brand campaigns and 12,000 creator collaborations over the last four quarters. Below are the headline signals; the full breakdown — by vertical, spend tier, and format — continues in the sections that follow.

+38% YoY brand spend to always-on programs    3.1× engagement lift for native creative    61% of Gen Z discover products via short-form first

The three signals that define 2026

If you read nothing else, read this: creator marketing is moving from campaign to infrastructure. The brands winning share are the ones treating creators as an ongoing channel, not a seasonal buy. The remainder of this report shows exactly where that shift is happening and how to act on it.

1. Format velocity beats production value

The single strongest predictor of campaign performance in our dataset was not budget or follower count — it was iteration speed. Creator programs that shipped 8+ native variations per month outperformed high-production single-hero campaigns by 3.1× on saved/shared engagement and 2.4× on cost per qualified click.

Practically, this means the brief is changing. Instead of one locked concept, leading brands hand creators a set of hooks and let format velocity find the winner.

What to do

  • Budget for volume: plan 6–10 native variations per creator, per month.
  • Brief hooks, not scripts — give the first three seconds, not the whole cut.
  • Move approvals to a 24-hour SLA; slow legal is now the top performance tax.

2. Spend is consolidating into always-on programs

Year over year, 38% more brand spend flowed into retainer-style, always-on creator programs versus one-off activations. The pattern is clearest in CPG, beauty, and financial services, where the cost of re-briefing new creators every quarter now exceeds the cost of retaining a proven roster.

Always-on also compounds trust: audiences that see a creator use a product across three months convert at materially higher rates than those exposed to a single sponsored post — a 1.9× lift in purchase intent in our data.

3. Engagement signals are shifting from likes to saves and sends

Vanity metrics are quietly dying. In 2026, the signals that correlate with downstream revenue are saves and sends — the private, intent-rich actions that platforms increasingly weight in distribution. Campaigns optimized for sends saw 2.7× more assisted conversions than those optimized for reach.

Benchmark (by vertical)

  • Beauty & Personal Care: save rate 4.8%, send rate 2.1% — highest in dataset.
  • CPG / Food: save rate 3.2%, strong recipe-driven send behavior.
  • Financial Services: lower save rate (1.4%) but 3.3× higher lead value per send.
  • Automotive: long consideration; sends predict showroom visits at 6–8 week lag.

4. Methodology

Findings draw on 412 brand campaigns and 12,140 creator collaborations run through Open Influence between Q3 2025 and Q2 2026, spanning nine verticals and four spend tiers. Engagement data is first-party where available and platform-reported otherwise; spend-shift figures are indexed to a same-brand cohort of 88 advertisers active in both years.

5. What this means for your 2026 plan

Treat creators as a channel with a roadmap, not a line item with a launch date. Fund iteration, optimize for saves and sends, and hold a proven roster across quarters.

Open Influence builds and runs always-on creator programs end to end — strategy, roster, production velocity, and measurement. The full data appendix and vertical playbooks are included in the downloadable report emailed with your access.
